What is big data?

Big Data is used to refer to extremely large data sets which cannot be easily processed using traditional computing methods. The data sets may be structured or unstructured, and usually require some form of analysis in order to provide business insight or automate business decision making. Sometimes, the term 'Big Data' can also refer to the tools and techniques involved in extracting, processing and analysing such data.
